- Tells & explains coffee culture
- Beautiful coffee table book
- Written in English
What is Fika? What does it mean and where does it come from? Stina Almroth explains all this and much more in the award-winning book Fika: Made In Sweden. The beautiful book is written in English and is a great coffee-table book for anyone who wants to learn more about our Swedish cultural treasure, Fika.
Fika is a world-famous Swedish tradition that is as deeply rooted in Swedes as it is fascinating to the rest of the world. Fika is, to the untrained eye, a cup of coffee and perhaps a pastry in the company of good friends or colleagues. But it's really much more than that.
Personal and explanatory
In Fika: Made In Sweden, Stina explains the background to this Swedish tradition. Both in general, and from a personal perspective as a fika enthusiast and passionate home baker. Apart from Stina's recipe for cinnamon buns, the book contains no other recipes, but focuses entirely on the concept of Fika and its importance for social life at home, at leisure and in the workplace in Sweden.
Beautiful pictures
The book is generously illustrated with beautiful pictures of baked goods and coffee traditions, taken by award-winning photographer Magnus Skoglöf. The pictures accompany Stina's narration and explanation very well and together they symbolise all that Fika stands for.
Carefully selected design
Graphic designer Cecilia Kusoffsky has been involved in developing the book's carefully selected design. Fika: Made in Sweden has an open spine that allows you to fold the book flat on the table. The blue thread on the spine matches the gold word FIKA on the front and represents the Swedish flag.
Award-winning book
The book Fika: Made In Sweden has been awarded two prestigious prizes.- Selected by the Swedish Meal Academy as the winner of the Swedish Meal Literature of the Year 2020 in the category Ceremonial Meals.- Swedish winner of the Gourmand Awards 2021, in the category "Coffee" where the book was selected as one of the four best in the world.
