OrganoTex® is a Swedish waterproofing spray that can be used to refresh clothes that are already waterproof or to make regular fabrics water repellent. The waterproofing spray is non-toxic and biodegradable and can be used on most clothes and fabrics.
The waterproofing spray is perfect for refreshing your current waterproof clothing, tents, and umbrellas. The spray renews clothing's worn water-repellent properties without changing the colour of the fabric, the way it feels, or its ability to breathe.
The waterproofing spray can also be used on clothes and other items that aren't usually water repellent, such as everyday clothing, canvas shoes, outdoor cushions, sofa cushions, backpacks and bags. The spray provides a water-repellent surface that makes the fabrics more resistant to water, dirt, and stains.
The spray can be used on many different kinds of material and creates water-repellent surfaces on polyester, polyamide, softshell, wool, fleece, cotton, canvas, acrylic, and various mixed fibres. The spray works best on synthetic fabrics such as polyester and polyamide.
OrganoTex® was inspired by nature's own chemistry and the water lily's ability to repel water. The spray creates a 3-D network of organic and hydrophobic polymers that repel water while allowing the fabric to breathe. The plant-based biodegradable part of the spray attaches itself deep within the fabric and provides thorough protection against water. The waterproofing spray was awarded the Scandinavian Outdoor Sustainability Award in 2018.
The waterproofing spray is made by the Swedish company OrganoClick just north of Stockholm. OrganoClick was founded in 2006 with the aim of commercialising the products of many years of research at Stockholm University and the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences. The company has won several prizes and awards, such as the WWF Climate Solve award.
Instructions:
1. Protect the surface you are working on. Shake the bottle and spray a generous amount of solution onto a clean and dry garment. Hold the bottle 20 cm from the garment as you spray to make sure the garment is sprayed evenly.
2. Wait for one minute before spraying the garment again and then use a cloth to rub the liquid into the fabric. Make sure you don't use too much liquid. Use gloves to protect your hands from the liquid's pH value.
3. Remove any superfluous liquid with a sponge or cloth. Drops of liquid that are not wiped up may leave stains.
4. Tumble-dry the garment or let it dry in a drying cabinet at 40–70 °C. You can also allow the garment to air-dry in a warm temperature for 1–2 days for a maximum water-repellent effect.
Previously impregnated garments should preferably be dried in a drying cabinet or tumble dryer. The high temperature is essential as it causes the fibres to split and rise up, which contributes to the water-repelling function.
The waterproofing spray is biodegradable according to OECD 301C and is free from highly fluorinated substances (fluorocarbons) such as PFAS, PFOS and PFOA, endocrine disruptors, and solvents. The spray is considered non-toxic according to the CLP Regulation.
